Saving children from the jungles of Burma. There is a Norwegian charity organization known as “Den Hvite Lilje” or “The White Lily” in English. Ever since we first heard the story of what the guys and gals working for this organization are doing, (and what a story it is!) we knew this was something we wanted to be associated with as well, and some initial discussions with them has taken place. However, please understand that as of right now, there is no official working relationship between FGF and The White Lilly. We expect tol have further talks with them in the future. For now, allow us to just recommend this organization, and also use it as an example of what we want to be associated with in the future. It is a well known fact that the regime in charge of Burma is a ruthless one. Parents of small children are forced to work for the soldiers of this regime, doing everything from carrying their weapons to building roads in the jungle. And they have to do this with no pay, and often with no food or drink given to them at all. Anyone forced to live like this is facing death sooner or later. The double tragedy here is that large groups of small children find themselves without parents as a result of this. These children are often captured and forced into living a life in the most horrible sex industry in Thailand. Or some times to be the sexual servants of soldiers deep into the jungles in Burma. In either case, this is the worst possible kind of a life any child can have on this earth! The White Lily is working to save as many of these children as possible. This partly done by meeting “the owners” of these children, and negotiating a price to be able to purchase their freedom. Additionally, they are working to build homes for these children. This is done both inside Burma and across the border in Thailand. Presently they are supporting a total of xx homes, with an average of 7 – 8 children in each home. And, - each home is like a family where these children are getting a new mother and father. For those who understand Norwegian, you can read much more about the work of The White Lily on their website here: http://www.hvitelilje.no You are also encouraged to support their work by donating to them through their website. Unfortunately, their site is only in the Norwegian language at this time. However, if you want to communicate with them in English, please write en email to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it An interesting side-aspect of this, is that several well known musicians and artists in Norway, like Kjell Elvis, (the most famous Elvis imitator in Europe) and Arly Karlsen, and others are working very closely with this organization, doing concerts both in Norway as well as in Burma and Thailand, for the purpose of supporting their work. Please visit their websites here: http://www.elvis.no/en/ http://www.arly.net/ Both of these artists are well-known to the founder of the Freeom GLOBE organization, Mr. Helge Normann, who has spent a good amount of time with both of them over the years. Kjell Elvis has even performed on a Freedom GLOBE event in connection with the launch in Norway and has agreed on working with us in the future as well. |
